GRIMSBY BUSES COME TO A HALT AS TOWN PAYS ITS RESPECTS TO POPULAR DRIVER

THE streets of Grimsby were lined with mourners to pay their respects to bus driver Ray Shadlock.

Buses came to a standstill as the funeral cortege passed along George Street into Victoria Street and onwards to the Stagecoach bus depot.

The popular driver, who served first with Grimsby and Cleethorpe­s Transport before it became Stagecoach, tragically died last month, aged 69, leaving behind a wife, sons and daughters and grandchild­ren.

His final journey was led by funeral director Brian Crainie who walked ahead of the cortege while mourners clapped along the way. The cortege passed into the bus depot on Victoria Street where colleagues stopped to pay their respects.

With precision timing the cortege arrived at Grimsby crematoriu­m m where colleagues in uniform provided ovided a guard of honour, alongside ongside friends.

A bus was parked at the crematoriu­m with the name me “Shaddy” on the front notiticebo­ard.

Others around the town n also has messages in his s memory.

He was carried into the service to the tune of Neil Diamond singing Hello Again. Several tributes were e posted on the Grimsby y Live Facebook page ge rememberin­g the popular lar driver and supervisor. Tina Purcell posted: sted: “Great guy always willing to help if you were e struggling with children dren and pushchairs (days when h you hd had to remove children from pushchairs and fold pushchairs down), never a frown from him. Sad loss for all.”

Diane Turnbull said: “Well done Stagecoach, what a wonderful tribute to an employee and a lovely man judging by the comments. Condolence­s to his family and friends x RIP.”

Mary Darter said: “My thoughts go out to all his family and friends, what a lovely thing stagecoach are doing, I remember being on his bus, many times when my c children were young a always had a smile, such lo lovely gentleman, RIP Ray.” S Sue Robinson said: “He was always wearing a smile to greet you with when getting onto t the bus he was driving .... such a lo lovely gentleman.” Coral Hewitt He said: “He was such a lovely l and df friendly man every time he seen us he would talk to me and my girls and help me on an off the bus with the two girls when they were in the pushchairs he never seen me struggle and I have a disability.”

“Very sad to hear this, such a lovely man always happy and cheerful .and if you were late for bus he would notice and wait for you God bless him, another Grimsby legend gone to soon. Rest in peace, sleep tight Ray,” posted Sarah Jane.
