THE 19 ‘BLUE’ AREAS WHERE COVID CASES NEED TO DROP

- By PAIGE FRESHWATER paige.freshwater@reachplc.com @PaigeFreshwater

ALTHOUGH northern Lincolnshire has dramatically reduced its Covid-19 infection rates in recent months – the region must continue to drop its case numbers.

It has almost been a year since the UK entered into its first lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic and, since then, it has been put under two other lockdowns and a tier system. North East Lincolnshire reported a total of 155 cases in the last seven-day, putting its rolling rate at 97.1, as of February 10. This compares to North Lincolnshire’s 184 cases and a rolling rate of 106.8.

Though it is not yet clear exactly when the country will return to ‘normal’, the Prime Minister is expected to reveal a roadmap out of lockdown on Monday, February 22.

It comes after Prof Hayward, a professor of infectious disease epidemiology and inclusion health research at University College London, suggested England could see a return to ‘normality’ once the most vulnerable have been vaccinated.

He said: “Once the most vulnerable people, particularly those over-50 and those with chronic illnesses, are vaccinated then yes, I think we can see a significant return to normality.

“I think what we’ll see is a phased opening up as vaccination levels increase. Then we’ll be more or less back to normal for the summer, I would imagine.”

Each day Public Health England updates its interactive map and shades each upper tier local authority to reflect its rate of infection.

Suppressed (white) is the lowest category with less than three cases, followed by Yellow with between 0 and 9 cases, light green with 10 and 49, and dark green with 50 to 99.

This is followed by light blue with between 100 and 199, dark blue with 200 to 399, purple with 400 and 799 and dark purple with 800 plus.

As of February 10, North East Lincolnshire moved into the green category, while North Lincolnshire remained in blue.
