Manor reveals expansion plan with 39 luxury lodges

LACEBY Manor resort has submitted fresh plans for luxury holiday lodges after a previous scheme became unviable due to coronavirus.

It hopes to build 39 new timber lodges across three and a half hectares of the golf course.

The resort had previously been granted permission to build 74 in another area, but building on that site would have incurred a charge to the site’s previous owner. The costs have proved too much due to the current uncertainty in the industry. The new lodges will create eight additional full-time jobs on top of the resort’s existing 40 roles once they are operation.

If approved, the first two holes of the golf course will be reworked to make them more challenging for players and new practice hole will also be created.

Roger Burnett, the Laceby Manor golf course owner, said: “The dramatic changes to life and business due to Covid-19 have made us reconsider our future plans. “The uncertainty of future business now requires prudent and careful considered decisions, hence the reason for this application and for a proposed fifth lodge area.

“It is not economically viable to fully develop it at this current time of uncertainty and economic instability in the leisure and tourist industries.”

Mr Burnett, a former British motorcycling champion, bought the Laceby Manor Golf Club site from the Grimsby Institute for an undisclosed sum in May 2011.

The proposed lodges are single storey timber-framed and clad buildings, which will be movable and energy efficient. The site will include a new pond and additional trees planted, with many of the existing trees left in place. Comments on the application can now be made on North East Lincolnshire Council’s website.
