A MANAGEMENT buy-out has been completed at high-growth Rocal Group, the Brigg-based manufacturer of doors and allied construction components.

Led by managing director Stephen Nadin, the management team of Kevin Ashe, Garry Brewin and Alison Jenkin have acquired the three division enterprise from James and Sandra Longley, who had been in control since 1996.

They have vowed to continue with the business strategy, including a sustained investment programme that has seen it become a 200-employee strong firm with a £24 million turnover.

The pandemic’s huge reset has seen massive spending on home improvement, with sales up 70 per cent year on year in the door division. It is producing more than 200 units a day, and is looking for 40 new staff

across manufacturing and administration.

Mr Nadin, who has been with the company for almost 20 years, said: “We are genuinely elated with the deal, which will allow us to continue with our long-term business plan. This will enable continued investment across all aspects for the group’s business and importantly offers greater longterm stability for employees, customers and business partners.”

Rocal was founded in 1993 operating from Monument Works, moving to Atherton Way in 2001.

From there it has grown significantly, and a further £1 million is to be spent in the next 18 months on new machinery, systems improvements and a purpose-built training facility. Rocal includes brand Endurance Doors, a supplier of a wide range of premium, solid timber core composite doors to more than 1,000 installers across the UK; Rocal Extrusions Ltd, who specialise in the manufacture of plastic extrusions, decorative wrapping and secondary operations and Rocal Door Panels, manufacturer of PVC-U door panels for the trade under the brand names of Aboda and Impressions.

The group boasts in-house toolmaking, extrusion and foil lamination.

Mr Nadin said the move is to support further growth, with strong objectives for the future direction of the business and a company-wide commitment towards product innovation and exemplary customer care. “The home improvement sector has been unbelievable through Covid - it has actually been a real positive for us,” he said.

“The past five years has seen a focus on Endurance and now as a business we are replicating that with the extrusions. We see a great opportunity there.” It includes a recyclable timber replacement product proving popular in the holiday home sphere. The transaction was completed by the management team with financial guidance from Forrester Boyd, legal advice from Bridge McFarland and financial support from Aldermore Bank Plc.
