HUMBERSIDE Police say the major- ity of people have been safely enjoying relaxed Covid restrictions. Pubs and restaurants with outdoor seating reopened to customers on Monday, following an easing in lockdown restrictions. Non-essential shops, hairdressers and indoor exercise venues, such as badminton and squash courts, also reopened to the public. Following the easing in lockdown, Humberside Police have been reminding people to remain vigilant and do everything they can to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Assistant Chief Constable Darren Downs said: “For many people, yesterday’s lifting of restrictions meant a socially distanced queue at the barbers or hairdressers, for others it was the long-awaited ability to meet with family and friends in a social setting, be it the local outdoor facilities of a restaurant, café or pub.

“We are pleased that the majority of the region enjoyed their first evening of socialising in local establishments.

“We did see some incidents reported but they had no direct connection to the lockdown restrictions easing and involved disputes between families and friends. “I would take this opportunity to remind people that we still remain in a situation where we need be responsible for our actions, and make sure we observe social distancing guidance that is in place for the safety and wellbeing of everyone.

“People should remain vigilant and do everything they can to continue to prevent the spread of the virus. Whilst restrictions have eased, adhering to guidelines to prevent the virus spreading must remain a top priority.”

It comes after Humberside Police confirmed the sad death of a man who collapsed in Sea View Street in the early hours of Tuesday - just hours after a 21-year-old collapsed in Grant Street.

Both were taken to hospital, where they sadly later died. Their deaths are not thought to be linked and neither appears to be suspicious. A police spokesman said of the second death: “At 1.15am today (Tuesday, April 13, 2021) we received a call regarding the concern for safety of a man who had collapsed on Sea View Street in Cleethorpes. “Emergency services attended and took the man to hospital for treatment. Sadly the man passed away in hospital a short time later.

“His family have been informed and are being supported by specifically trained officers. Our sympathies are with his family and friends at this sad time.

“The circumstances of his death are not thought to be suspicious and enquiries will continue to establish the cause of his passing.”

They said the same of the first tragedy, which they were called to at 7.15pm on Monday. Meanwhile, in North Lincolnshire the force said Monday was a “very busy night” after making five arrests. Humberside Police - North Lincolnshire Tweeted: “A very busy night across North Lincs, anybody would think the pubs have reopened.

“Lots of incidents of alcoholfuelled disorder - in Ashby, Ferry Road, Westwoodside, West Butterwick and Barnetby, resulting in five people in custody. Please drink responsibly.”

We did see some incidents reported but they had no direct connection to the lockdown restrictions easing and involved disputes between families and friends.
