BoltonB lt bossb warns playersl of potential ‘banana skin’

-

BOLTON Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has warned his side they face a “banana skin” as they take on Grimsby Town this weekend. The Trotters make the trip to Blundell Park on Saturday as they continue their push for promotion back to League One, with a four-point advantage over fourth-placed Morecambe putting them in a great position heading into their final five games. It’s a far cry from the position the Mariners currently find themselves in, with Paul Hurst’s side sitting bottom of the table and facing a seven-point gap to safety with just six games to go.

Ahead of Saturday’s encounter, Evatt insists he’s remaining calm as his side close in on promotion – but has warned his players against complacency against Town this weekend.

“I’m fine, I’m cool as a cucumber because I have unbelievable amounts of belief in my team and I know what’s between them and promotion,” Evatt said after his side’s win over Salford City on Tuesday. “It’s going to take some stopping because their attitude is fantastic, their hunger, desire, work ethic, togetherness - you’ve heard from the lads that are in the stands what it means, cheering blocks, cheering tackles, cheering clearances.

“We are really in this together but this is only a great win if we go ahead and get the job done. “We’ve got five big, big games to come, we’re not resting on our laurels. We’re going to keep working hard and make sure we give it our all.” Evatt added: “It’s exciting isn’t it and we’re proud and pleased to be here, but we’ve not done anything yet. “We’ve got five more huge games and it’ll take that kind of effort, commitment, work rate, added with the quality that we showed in the first half to get us over the line.

“We’ll dust ourselves down and we’ll enjoy this, but we must recover for Saturday because it’s going to be a big game.

“It’s a banana skin, bottom of the league. Until they lost last week, they’ve been unbeaten in eight, so it’s going to be tough and we have to make sure we’re ready for that one.”
