WOMAN SPITS IN BIN MAN’S FACE AND SHOUTS ‘COVID’
ATTACKER CHASED CREW DOWN THE STREET
A WOMAN spat in a bin man’s face after chasing a crew in Grimsby on Friday morning. Humberside Police have launched an investigation following the incident on Eleanor Street, Grimsby, at 8.25am.
The woman chased a bin crew and hurled abuse at them.
She then spat in the face of one of the workers and shouted ‘Covid’ at him.
Waste and recycling crews are classed as key workers.
They have been collecting more household waste and recycling than usual from homes during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, there have been a small number of isolated incidents in the past year where crews have been subjected to unacceptable levels of abuse.
All such incidents are reported to Humberside Police.
A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: “Our waste and recycling crews are here to help and have the right to work in a safe environment.
“We will not tolerate any abuse directed at our staff.
“It is not acceptable that people who are working hard to keep vital services going are being threatened and abused.
“We will not tolerate violence, physical aggression or verbal abuse of our staff.
“Behaviour like this is disgraceful, especially given the difficult circumstances our crews are working through.”
