Dredging up our failed river plan
IT was nice to see that young man taking care of our river. It’s a river we tried to do something about sometime ago now.
Our aim was to set up a fishing club for the local kids. I got a quote for the stretch from Boulevard Bridge to just past Earl Street of £100,000, for which we could get a grant to help dredge that piece of the river.
With a folder full of phone numbers for wildlife people, the Environment Agency and others, our responsibility would be to look after the banks, the island at the park and take the rubbish from the water, etc. Finally, we got an email back from the dredging company – for £670,000, way out of our reach. So we had to let it go. Somebody didn’t want us interfering with the river!
