Paul is still taking a lead role by helping dogs in need

-

PUPPY love is the name of the game for this hugely popular show, now in its ninth series. Paul O’Grady says he is inundated with messages from fans desperate for news on the show and the rescued mutts. “I always say it about this show, but it really is a Cinderella tale,” says Paul.

“You get a dog that comes in and has often been abused or badly treated, and they make them well again and they go off to a lovely home. It has a happy ending.

PAUL O’GRADY: FOR THE LOVE OF DOGS

“So you might cry at the beginning, but then you can cry at the end too!” As fans will know, Paul is at Battersea Dogs and

Cats home, helping out the staff to find homes for abandoned and stray dogs. In this episode, Paul trains a lively beagle cross pup and spends the day keeping a bichon company. He also helps a shell shocked old staffie before getting caught up in an outbreak of parvo.

Paul explains: “Sylvester is a lovely old staffie. “He was left tied to the gates in the middle of the night.

“He was 13 years old and he broke my heart, that dog. “He was covered in lumps that had to be removed. He was in such a state.

“We also had an outbreak of parvo in the kennels. So we all had to wear suits and clean everything out.

“We had to quarantine some of the dogs and it was raining constantly.

“It wasn’t great but the whole team at Battersea are amazing.”
