CAMERAS READY TO ROLL ON ‘MILLIONAIRE’ FISHERMEN FILM
DIRECTOR: FILMING WILL START IN JULY, BRINGING INVESTMENT TO THE TOWN
THE countdown is on for filming a new movie in Grimsby about its “Millionaire” fishermen. Pioneering director, Jack Spring said crews will be rolling cameras in Grimsby by July this year.
He announced two years ago the inspiration for his latest production was the bond between fishermen who were the “Three Day Millionaire” after their expeditions to sea.
The film will be exclusively shot in Grimsby. Work was due to begin last spring, but the coronavirus crisis halted all filming.
Now Jack is back on track and his first mission is to thank the people of Grimsby for providing the locations that will give the film “heart and soul.”
Jack told the Grimsby Telegraph: “The support has been genuinely heart touching. From people willing to let us use their houses as locations, council support and financial support, the support has been utterly amazing. “I’d like to do all I can to shout about Grimsby as a filming location and say a big thank you.”
“Clearly the big thing that delayed us was the coronavirus,” he added.
But while he has continued to work providing film-making expertise for businesses aiming to market their services and products, Jack has had a keen eye on the launch of his latest movie.
“I have still been busy working. The sets have all needed to have Covid officers and we have tended just to work in small teams and some scenes have been difficult to shoot and all the extras needed testing regularly.” The restrictions are due to be lifted next month, allowing more freedom to film by July in Grimsby.
The director is remaining tightlip lipped on the cast list. But they are in instantly recognisable and with cl clutches of awards to their names and w will be known to every household.
The homespun drama based on the ch characters in Grimsby’s fishing industr try in 1996 is expected to attract a numbe ber of high-profile actors from the w world of the big screen.
Jack, 24, said the film will leave a legac acy for Grimsby and help promote the to town he loves, on a global stage. It has a criminal twist and readers are going to be held in suspense until th the launch due next year. Film locati tions include Ross House, Grimsby Docks, Cleethorpes seawall, Fuller Street Bridge, Cleethorpes Pier and amusements, Abbey Road in Grimsby a and The Ross Tiger. A major premiere is planned in the t town. It could see around £145,000 rolling i into the economy of the area this summer with all the services needed by the crews and actors.
In 2019 Jack gave a presentation to council officials and business leaders to assure them of his commitment to Grimsby and outline the legacy the movie will leave behind. That is in contrast to Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2016 film “Grimsby” which many critics panned for doing absolutely nothing for the town, except trashing its image and proud name.
Jack, who is an avid Grimsby Town fan, won acclaim as a young director making “Destination Dewsbury.”
His latest inspiration has been written by Paul Stephenson, of Hull, but will be filmed exclusively in Grimsby and Cleethorpes to reflect the fishermen who were at sea for three weeks but had three days back home to enjoy themselves.
