MORE than 400 new jobs are being created by Grimsby’s Young’s Seafood as it looks to become an employer of 3,000 in the town by the end of the year. Increased demand for the company’s products is behind the huge recruitment drive - with a variety of factorybased roles available across the sites. It comes just weeks after the parent company - Eight Fifty Food Group - was bought out by Canadian firm Sofina Foods, creating a £4.3 billion transatlantic entity.

Terry Tuplin, site director at Young’s - already the town’s largest employer - said: “We’re proud to be in a position where we can grow our team and continue to help inspire our nation to love and eat fish now and for generations. “We have so many development and promotional opportunities and are keen to promote from within, wherever possible. Today you can be a production operative packing or helping make our products, tomorrow you could be managing people or going into other departments such as learning and development or marketing.

“I was recruited from the shop floor over 30 years ago, and as my career flourished, so did the success of the business. We can all enjoy the development, investment and opportunities to grow here at Young’s.

“Many of our management population have grown up with the business and so can anyone else.

“We believe in creating positive, wellfounded employee relationships, a great work-life balance, fair reward and long-term career prospects. Its foundation is built from over 200 years’ experience in fish manufacturing and this has allowed our organisation to provide sustainable employment for development and growth in Grimsby.” Young’s produces some of the nation’s favourite brands of coated and natural fish products.

No previous experience of working in a fish or in a food manufacturing environment is required for the production operative roles.

Mr Tuplin said it was “just a willingness to learn, the right attitude and a desire to succeed with the nation’s favourite brand of fish”. Significant expansion at the firm’s Humberstone Road facility were completed recently, after it bought out neighbouring premises fronting Ladysmith Road from XPO Logistics.

It also has multiple sites on Port of Grimsby, in the shadow of the iconic Ross House headquarters.
