Jewellery firm’s new multi-million pound office development

A GRIMSBY company, well known for its bespoke jewellery, has unveiled a new multi-million pound development, equipped with flexible, state-of-the-art city-style offices and meeting rooms.

McCue, or House of McCue Jewellers as many will know them, are situated on Wilton Road Industrial Estate in Humberston. They’ve expanded their premises and created a stunning space for local businesses to rent on short or long term agreements.

Alongside the available offices, the company are offering a number of other services such as IT help and accounting for any local businesses who are starting out. In the near future, the group plan to expand both the offices and the jewellery business.

The building has been built on the grounds of director Sean’s former family home in Humberston and he’s hoping this can be the start of a new chapter for the McCue family. He said: “We’ve built a fully serviced office space that lends itself towards a city style flexibility. Our offices can be rented on a monthly basis and no one is forced into a contract.

“We’re not like some others in the area where you’re tied in to two or three-year leases, we’re a lot more simplified.

“Our offices come equipped with furnishings, air con, high speed wi-fi, gas and electric, the only bit you pay for is the room itself.”

Sean, 50, says it’s always been a dream of his to open something like

McCue House. “It’s been a vision I’ve had for a number of years now. The ground it’s built on is actually my family home that was built here in the 1960s. “When my father passed away in 2012, my mum was the only person living here, on her own, on an industrial estate. We thought it seemed a waste of a big amount of space, but also that it wasn’t a great place for her to be living. We saw a gap in the market for something like this so we began the conversion in September last year after buying my mum a new home.

“The area it’s situated in is certainly busy, but not to the point of being intrusive. As well, some of the people we have working in our offices are saying it’s a delight to not have to drive through the centre of town to get to work.

“We think the building is exactly what people want, we believe we’re helping out the local business community.”

Olivia Rogers, Business Centre Manager, stressed that the building isn’t simply an office space. She added: “We also offer services for the start-up businesses here. “We can give them IT training and we even provide advice and support with any accounting issues they may have.” According to Sean, McCue House has attracted a lot of interest from people looking to rent the offices. He said: “We’re slowly putting the word out there, but there seems to be a lot of companies and people that are interested in the idea already. “Most of the businesses that rent here or have enquired are local, but some come from further afield such as Manchester.”

Even though they will still be running their bespoke jewellery business, the team had to do a lot of reorganising when work began. Sean said: “Our first job was taking out the bank vault which wasn’t the easiest job. Currently, we use the vault to house all our valuable metals for our jewellery business, but we’ve got plans to alter that in the second phase.

“The hardest part for us however has been the financial side during the Coronavirus pandemic. “We’ve got two phases of construction in mind. Originally, we’d secured the funds to start phase one [McCue House], but then the first lockdown was announced and our plans were put on hold. “Eventually, we got ourselves into a similar position, but then the second lockdown was announced and all commercial lending was pulled.

“Thankfully, we managed to secure the money soon after and there wasn’t a lack of building supplies like there had been in the first lockdown so we could get on with the project.”
