DOVER CASTLE, KENT

-

Dover Castle has stood firmly on Kent’s famous white cliffs for 900 years.

It has the UK’s oldest surviving lighthouse, built by the Romans. The impressive Great Tower, created by King Henry II, is at its heart and history fans can meet the characters of his court and even sit on his throne.

In the Secret Wartime Tunnels, visitors can witness the miracle of Dunkirk on a visual tour detailing the

incredible rescue operation. There’s also the Underground Hospital, where you follow an injured Second World War fighter pilot being rushed through to emergency surgery, with recreated rooms with atmospheric sounds and smells and original equipment used during the war.
