‘He will get a budget that is right up there with the best’

-

PAUL Hurst will be given a budget in line with the top sides in the National League next season, Grimsby Town’s new owners have promised.

Jason Stockwood and Andrew Pettit have already got down to work after being officially unveiled as Town’s new custodians on Wednesday. Improvements on the facilities at Cheapside are already underway, with the team having been training at Blundell Park in the build-up to their final game against Cambridge United this weekend.

And extensive work to improve the pitch at the Mariners’ home will also be undertaken during the off-season as the club’s new owners aim to give their manager the best tools possible for life back in non-league.

It promises to be a big summer for Hurst, who will no doubt have his hands full as he builds his squad for Town’s return to the National League.

The Mariners boss knows only too well how difficult it can be to get a side back into the EFL, having been the man to end Town’s six-year stint in non-league last time around.

But he’s set to get an improved budget this time around as Stockwood and Pettit aim to help Hurst achieve a swift return to the Football League.

“It (the budget) will be in the upper echelons of the National League, and it will improve on this season’s,” Stockwood told the Grimsby Telegraph.

“He’ll (Hurst) get the resources to build a team, but what we’ve stated before is that we want the club to be sustainable as well. “We’re budgeted at a loss next year that we’re going to stand behind, but at the same time we want to make sure that the culture is right, and we get the right type of individuals.

“He will get a budget that is right up there with the best in the league.”
