THE nation’s finest military personnel will stage a series of spectacular displays in the tribute to our Armed Forces in Cleethorpes.

North East Lincolnshire’s Armed Forces weekend will have a number of stunning displays and activities over the weekend June 26 and 27.

The Lancers regiment, the Royal Anglian Regiment, 250 Medical Corps and the Royal Logistics Corps are just some of the military who will be performing over the weekend.

Local veterans will also be on parade. The decision to delay the latest coronavirus lockdown for a further four weeks has not dented organisers’ commitment to stage the tribute to the British military but they are having to scale back the event, for this year only, from previous years.

Alex Baxter, Armed Forces Champion, said, “Over the years, AFMET has grown our hugely successful Armed Forces Weekend to be the largest free event along the whole of the east coast and we assure people that will return next year.

“However, for this year only, we’re holding it in Meridian Showground in order to help manage the numbers of people attending and provide a Covidsafe environment, as we’re still in restricted times.

“We’re renowned for putting on a great show in Cleethorpes and people always turn out to show support for the armed forces and their families.

We’re looking forward to a great event and hopefully, a sunny weekend.”

Held within the Meridian Showground, Cleethorpes, and free to enter, fantastic displays, parades, and activities are being staged in two-hour timed slots to ensure that all requests from public health and the emergency services have been met.

The event will also be supported by a food court and traders within Meridian Showground.

There are five timed sessions over the weekend – three on Saturday, two on Sunday.

This is a ticketed event in order to manage the numbers of people in Meridian Showground.

Further details of the ticketing arrangements can be found on the Armed Forces Website – www.armedforcenortheastlincolnshire.co.uk

Static displays this year will include the Royal Anglian Regiment, 250 Medical Corps and the Royal Logistics Corps, as well as recruiting stalls staffed by all three armed forces.

In addition, there will be a display from the 1940s medical display team, and combat vehicles on show.

In each session, there will be a full arena display from the Lancers, musical entertainment and a display from the CVRTs (Combat vehicle reconnaissance (tracked)).

A parade of standards and veterans will be confirmed within Meridian park in the next few days, and there will be a special appearance from Blighty Bear.

On Sunday, the Les Springall Big Swing Band will be performing live on the stage during the afternoon.
