A WOMAN from Grimsby has criticised Humberside Police over the issue of drink spiking, saying she feels let down by their response to her drink being spiked in Cleethorpes.

The person, who wished to remain anonymous, collapsed in the middle of the seaside resort and began frothing at the mouth as she was taken home by friends after her drink was apparently spiked.

Having only been out three hours and visited two local bars, she claims it was impossible for her to be as drunk as she was told she was acting, leading her to believe someone had contaminated one of her drinks.

Her father reported the crime to the police in the early hours of the morning her family had been made aware of the ordeal, on Sunday, October 31.

However, she says police have not been proactive in helping and haven’t spoken to her directly almost a week after the incident.

Humberside Police said they are doing everything they can to help the individual, adding that every line of inquiry is being explored to bring the responsible parties to justice.

The woman said: “I was out in Cleethorpes last Saturday (October 30), but only for three hours.

“At one point in the night, people started thinking I was really drunk.

“My friend began to walk me over to the High Street, but I collapsed on the way.

“As I fell, I cut my body and started bleeding everywhere.

“Eventually, some friends came and took me back home, but on the way I’d started frothing at the mouth and my eyes were rolling into the back of my head apparently.”

When she got home, things were sadly no better as the her condition worsened. She explained: “I was being sick and pouring with blood when I got back.

“Initially, we rang for an ambulance and were told it would be a two to three hour wait.

“I was still being sick and bleeding when we first rang, but when they rang back to ask if we still needed an ambulance I had managed to go to sleep.

“I woke up at around 3am on Sunday in someone else’s clothes and that was the first time I realised what had happened.

“It’s really put me off going out and I won’t be doing so for quite some time that’s for sure.

“Not being able to remember any of it does make me wonder what happened though. I’m so glad I managed to get home, but someone might not be as lucky as that.”

After the woman’s father phoned the police, they were informed someone would be in touch, but a week later, she said she has still not been contacted directly.

She said: “I’ve still heard nothing from them, they’ve rang my dad and said they’ll be in touch with me, but I still haven’t heard anything.

“It makes you think they’re not bothered about the issue, what’s the point in reporting it if they’re not going to act upon it?”

In response to the claims, a spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Extensive enquiries into this report are continuing, with this being an ongoing police investigation.

“Every line is being explored to bring those responsible to justice.

“All reports of this nature are taken extremely seriously. To report a crime in action, call 999. To report information or after the fact, call our non-emergency number 101.”
