No new deal for loanee Dieseruvwe

ON loan Grimsby Town forward Mani Dieseruvwe has been released by Tranmere Rovers upon the expiration of his contract.

Dieseruvwe will not be offered fresh terms at Prenton Park after Rovers missed out on a League Two play-off place by just two points, leaving the door open for Grimsby to sign him on a permanent deal this summer should they wish.

The 27-year-old joined Town on loan in February as Paul Hurst moved quickly to bring another striker in their push for a place in the top seven.

Dieseruvwe has started just two matches since his arrival at the Mariners but has scored two important goals in that timeframe, including a crucial 90th minute winner against Woking on just his second appearance for the club.

But while his time at Tranmere has now officially come to an end, Dieseruvwe still has plenty to play for this season.

With just one matching remaining of the regular campaign, the Mariners have already booked their place in the National League play-off play-offs as they seek an immediate return to the Football League. Town currently sit sixth in the table and but for a four-goal swing on the final day with Chesterfield, that is where they will finish.

Hurst’s men make the trip to 19th place Eastleigh, while the Spireites host Woking.

That sets up a heavyweight play-off quarter-final clash with Notts County, who look very well set to cement fifth place.

While it is unclear what Town will decide to do with Dieseruvwe this summer, his experience of National League promotion via the play-offs with Salford City could be huge in the coming weeks.
