Town impress Schofield

DONCASTER Rovers manager Danny Schofield was full of praise for Paul Hurst and his Grimsby Town team’s approach to games ahead of their highly-anticipated clash.

Schofield is still finding his feet with Rovers after replacing Gary McSheffery last month, and his team are reeling from an embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of National League North side Kings Lynn Town.

The Mariners have lost their last two league games, but Hurst and his side got back on course with wins in the FA Cup and Papa John’s Trophy.

The two teams have had similar starts in the league, with just two points separating them in the table, which adds an extra incentive.

Schofield will be looking for a strong response from his group, with Hurst looking for a continuation of the good habits Town have built up over the last week. Motivation will not be an issue in either camp, and the Rovers chief said his side must be up for the challenge to take on a “competitive” Grimsby side.

“After a defeat, you always want to respond, no matter the level of performance you put in. The lads have trained really well, and they have responded well so far, so we’re hoping for a positive result.

“Grimsby had a really positive result in the FA Cup against Plymouth, so they will come into the game with a positive attitude and have a lot of belief in what they’re doing. They’ve got a very good coach, and they’re a really competitive team, so we know it is going to be a tough challenge. The key is to have a set way of doing things both on and off the pitch, and Grimsby clearly do.

“They’ve got a real way of defending, a real way of attacking, which we’re aware of. They’re an organised team because they have a great work ethic and fight hard for each other, and that was evidenced in their performance against Plymouth alone.

“They have a lot of strengths. This is just another challenge, but this is why I love coaching football and being a head coach, as each challenge brings its own pressures, and we have to react in the right way.”
