Jungle Zoo auctioning off its famous lion

-

THE Jungle Zoo is auctioning off its famous fibreglass lion in aid of Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue.

Over the years, the Jungle Zoo has worked closely with the team at the wildlife rescue, raising thousands for them in the process.

Even though it has now shut its doors due to financial pressures, owner Sharon Gledhill, 47, said she was keen to do one last kind gesture for the fellow animal lovers.

Mrs Gledhill took to the zoo’s Facebook page to announce that they would be auctioning off their famous fibreglass lion.

All the proceeds from the sale will be going to the team at the Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue to help them in their efforts.

“We’ve had so many people enquire as to whether he’s for sale or not and we thought if we put him up for auction, we’d be able to raise a fair bit of money for the rescue,” Sharon told Grimsby Live.

“He’s been here since I first started coming to the zoo when I was 18.”

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue was forced to temporarily close back in June due to the ever increasing cost of fuel and electricity.

Owners Linda Bass and Aaron Goss plough almost all their own income into the service which has saved hundreds of animals lives.

“We’ve worked with Linda for years and we thought this would be a great idea,” continued Sharon.

Although he doesn’t have a name, the 4.5ft lion has been a family favourite for many years, with children regularly climbing on top for photo opportunities.

The auction is being monitored on the zoo’s Facebook page and will be running until midday on Friday, November 18.
