How the Mariners’ stars rated...

-

MAX CRCOCOMBE: Was not asked to do much in the first half and could not do much to stop George Miller’s goal, which was smashed in from point-blank range. 5 MICHEE EFETE: Struggled to get forward with the ball before the break as Doncaster cut the passing lanes to the wide channels well in attacking positions and was quiet defensively, with most of the visitors’ attacks coming down the opposite side. 5 LUKE WATERFALL: Not much came past him down the middle, but he was a busy man early on as the visitors applied the attacking pressure. Was a lot more disoriented in the second half. 5 ANDY SMITH: A bit all over the place at times in a performance that lacked composure all around from the Mariners. Did well to get in the way of a few shots in the second half. 6

ANTHONY GLENNON: Had a tough time defensively, especially in the opening stages as Kyle Knoyle and Luke Molyneux wreaked havoc and found plenty of space down his side. Dribbled past far too easily on a couple of occasions. 4

HARRY CLIFTON: Could not convert Town’s only real chance of the first half as he played a nice one-two with Otis Khan on the counter-attack to break through on goal, but his finish let him down. 6

ALEX HUNT: Worked hard in the middle of the park, but his passes were often offline, which forced him to work harder than he would have wanted to in recovering the ball in the first period. 5

BRYN MORRIS: Saw a lot of the ball in the first period but played it safe one too many times as Town struggled to create openings before the break. 6 GAVAN HOLOHAN: A busy performance in the middle as usual, but a lot of that work was without the ball as the Mariners toiled for control of the midfield. 7

OTIS KHAN: Certainly a quieter first half by his standards, aside from the part he played in Clifton’s chance. Subbed off on the hour mark. 5

BRENDAN KIERNAN: Did not have as much joy trying to beat the offside trap as he did in the Plymouth game and was often physically overwhelmed by the Doncaster defence when the ball was delivered into the box. 5

SUBSTITUTES

JOHN MCATEE (61’): The only positive was the instant impact this man had upon the game. Took his goal really well and could have had a second in the dying embers. 8

LEWIS RICHARDSON (61’): Town soon went three down after he came on and had accepted their fate in the game, which meant the forward players did not have a whole lot to do. 6 KEYENDRAH SIMMONDS (61’): Same as Richardson in the sense there was not much they could do to turn the game around. 6
