‘Please talk to someone, there is help out there’

Visitors to our Facebook page have left their own tributes after we reported that Jonny Harrad tragically died on train tracks:

-

■ Tina Stewart: Heartbreaking. Poor young man must have been in a very dark place. RIP.

■ Andrea Burman: Shocking, poor young man had his whole life ahead of him. Bless you and your family at this tragic time xx.

■ Ally-Mai East: Men need to reach out. Andy’s Man Club have a branch in Grimsby. Rest in peace x.

■ Leonie J Hayes: Thoughts and prayers go out to Jonny’s family and friends and to the train driver.

■ Angela Grayson: This is utterly heartbreaking. How bad this young man must have been feeling to think that this was his only option. RIP now, your pain is over but has just started for your family and friends. My condolences to them on their loss and my thoughts to the train driver and all the emergency services involved. Such a waste of life. There needs more to be done about mental health issues. More and more men are feeling like this is their only option but it’s not. Please, if you’re feeling like this talk to someone, anyone, think about your family and how they would feel without you in their lives. We have four sons who are grown men but they will always be our babies and we will always want what’s best for them.

■ Ally Kirwin: So very sad thoughts with family and friends and especially the train driver.

■ Rosita Bird: So very sad. Been there and luckily I survived with the right help but many don’t unfortunately. Some men are always more vulnerable as they don’t talk about their problems like some women do.

■ Skyee Grady: Really wish it wasn’t you. Who’s gonna sing silly songs to Aaliyah? Who’s going to come ringing my buzzer at stupid times and now the shop can’t wind us up anymore? I’m gonna miss you. Wish it didn’t come to this Jonny.

■ Clive Wiltshire: RIP young man. Condolences to all concerned. Just to add to this sad story, if contemplating taking your own life please talk to someone, there is help out there. A vicar, priest, nurse, policeman, etc. Someone will always listen to you. So that said, I beg others to seek help. God bless your soul.

■ Jane Pauley: Mental health is a invisible illness, it’s so hard when you’re actually going through it, and also see someone you love going through it. I don’t think there is enough help around, and for men to ask for help is massive. I think they suffer in silence, this poor man sounds like he was at rock bottom. The stigma around mental health is that you’re weak but you are not. It’s so hard to ask for help so you smile when you need to and you’re hurting inside. Sending massive love to his family. This is heartbreaking.
