A special place for our loved ones

-

When we lose a loved one, precious memories help us keep a sense of connection, and having a special place to go to can give us that feeling of closeness.

James D Murray,

Co-op funeral director at William Pressdee Funeralcare in Swansea, explains why having a lasting memorial can be such an enormous comfort to anyone dealing with grief:

Why is having a memorial important?

It’s a personal choice. Some people need somewhere to spend time or an item to help comfort them. If your loved one was buried, you may choose to have a headstone and a place to go and visit. With a cremation, you don’t always have that, but there are a lot of choices you can make.

Do memorials help with the grieving process?

Everybody grieves differently; it’s a journey of accepting someone is gone, and remembering. A memorial means you can continue to do that.

How do you decide on a suitable memorial?

How a person is remembered should be just as individual as they were. Co-op Funeralcare has a range of products and services so you can choose a tribute that reflects who your loved one was.

What are the most popular lasting memorials?

A bench, in your garden or another place with a personal meaning, is a popular option, as is a decorative urn or sculpture.

What about planting a tree?

Our Memory Trees can be planted with ashes underneath and a memorial plaque. People can have them in their own gardens, but we also work closely with local parks to help facilitate that too.

How soon do you have to decide on a memorial?

There’s no rush. We’ll offer that bereavement support whenever it’s needed, be it directly after the funeral or in a few months’ time.
