Essel fires Boro to impressive win

-

GRIMSBY Borough moved up to 11th with an impressive 1-0 victory over fifth placed Dunston.

It was Borough’s 13th point out of a possible 15, making them the Northern Premier East League’s in-form team alongside Worksop.

Borough settled quickly as Dunston looked like a top five side pushing for promotion.

Their crisp passing and movement were a joy to watch and threatened the Borough goal after 10 minutes from a corner, but Liam Higton pulled off a reaction save to stop an effort from Liam Thear.

As the game settled Borough got into their stride. Jack Debnam and Owen Davey started to get to grips with their opposite numbers and to get hold of the ball and start some attacks.

Jack Barlow sent in a lovely cross to the far post where it looked like Adam Drury was going to open the scoring but the ball just evaded him as he arrived a fraction late.

The referee awarded Dunston a penalty on 36 minutes when it looked like a blatant dive by Sado Djalo as Tom Sawyer shepherded the ball out for a goal kick. Coulson hammered the penalty straight at the post and as the ball came back Jenkins fired well over.

After the break Borough upped their game and got the breakthrough on 70 minutes from Grimsby Town loanee Edwin Essel.

Debnam got on the ball in the lefthand channel and drove at Pearson, taking him one way then the other and pulled back a low cross that evaded keeper Staples for Essel running in to finish from three yards.

This was Borough’s most impressive performance since entering the league this season against a very good and fancied Dunston side pushing for promotion.
