PEOPLE have been left “shocked” and “absolutely gutted” as Grimsby’s Tea in the Park has announced it will be closing its doors for good in December.

On Monday, November 14, the owners of the tea room in Grant Thorold Park took to its Facebook page to announce the sad news, writing that the “time has come” to cease trading as the business is “no longer viable”.

Tea in the Park was set up in June 2017 as part of the extensive refurbishment of the library which included a brand new community hub, made up of a function room, children’s play area and independent business units. The project was funded through a £274,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

On its Facebook page, the owners of Tea in the Park wrote: “We wanted you all to hear it first, sadly the time has come for Tea in the Park to cease trading, it is no longer a viable business to operate.

“We will be closing on December 1st 2022. We would like to personally thank you for your support over the years and we hope new owners will bring fresh hope and creativity to the venue.

“Thank you for all your lovely comments and support over the years, from all staff at Tea in the Park, we really do appreciate it and hope to see you all before our closing date, which will be a very sad day xxxx.”

In response to the news, hundreds of loyal customers have flocked to the comments to express their sadness.

Paddy Bennett commented: “Gutted to read this - you’ve been really appreciated, love the vibe and banter as well as the food - you will be very much missed guys. Good luck in whatever you do next.”

“Omg this is a shock to hear n read about. You do some lovely meals n out of this world cakes, you will be missed xx,” wrote Gill Scott.

Lisa Haig said: “Things are so difficult for many businesses. You will be missed by many in the local community. Take care.”

“Oh no I was just telling someone how great your cafe is, and what lovely meals, and wonderful cakes you do, you will be so missed,” commented Carole Payne.
