Town nursery does their bit ‘even though times are hard’

-

A GRIMSBY nursery have done their bit this year for Children In Need, despite times being tough for parents and staff

Leap Ahead nursery on the Nunsthorpe estate in Grimsby invited children to dress up in pyjamas and bring their Pudsey ears to do all they can to raise money for charity. Also getting involved were the staff at the nursery who weren’t going to let the children feel on their own.

In matching onesies, they valiantly carried on with their day jobs feeling the most comfortable they’ve ever felt. However, with times being hard during the Cost of Living crisis, parents said they still felt they had to get involved to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Speaking about the day’s events, nursery manager Charmaine Rowlands explained: “We’ve done a treasure hunt and encouraged pupils to collect twigs, which would then earn them sponsors to raise money for Children In Need.” Charmaine said there seem to be fewer people doing something for Children In Need this year, but says it was about more than just raising money.

She said: “Since Covid, many people have been stuck indoors and not really going out their comfort zones. With the activities we’ve done today, we’re trying to get families to go out together and enjoy themselves.

“Times are hard at the minute with bills and other costs so children need as much support as they can get and we feel like we’ve helped to give them that today.”

Wanting to give the children a day to enjoy, Charmaine and the others laid on a feast of activities. Alongside the treasure hunt, there was also a dance off and other Pudsey themed challenges. However, without the help of everyone, Charmaine admits the day wouldn’t have happened. She said: “All the hard working staff have made today happen. Without them, we wouldn’t have pulled it off.”
