Quaint coffee shop offers good food but service disappointed
TO BEAT FRANCHISE PRICES LOCAL IS THE WAY TO GO
AS an avid coffee lover, I was very excited to be trying this Humberston stop that boasts good reviews.
With international coffee franchises boosting their prices due to the cost of living crisis, I’ve quickly realised local shops are the way to go if you’re looking for a more affordable cup of coffee and a quick bite. Luckily, there are several great places for this around Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
Bentley’s Coffee House has received lots of praise from the community for their delightful looking cakes and treats. This put them at the top of my list to try.
I headed over on my dinner break feeling rather peckish and ready to tuck into whatever lunch options they had.
At first, I was a little confused to find out that the café was attached to an antique shop called Vintage Lincs, although that didn’t affect my experience too much.
After being seated, I ordered a latte and took in the scenery. The business may be tailored towards older patrons, but the furniture and the decorations were a little oldfashioned for me.
The music in the background, Elvis and The Beatles, was also pretty retro.
I decided to opt for the ham, egg and some homemade chips. The chips were easily the star of this dish. While the meal was nice I don’t think I would be rushing back to have it again.
The meal and the coffee came to a total of £10.30, which was a great bargain and proves my point of why local café spots are the now place to go. However, the service after I finished my food was a bit lacking.
I waited for over 20 minutes for someone to come and collect my empty plate in the hopes I could also order a slice of cake, which I had on my mind from the start. Several members of staff walked past my table and didn’t even think to stop, although they were getting busy.
Eventually, I gave up and went to the counter to settle up.
While I delighted by the price and the food was good, a sweet treat and slightly more attentive service could have elevated the whole experience.
