TALK ON HOW HE GOT INTO THE FILM INDUSTRY

DIRECTOR and honorary Grimbarian Jack Spring has visited Grimsby Institute ahead of the world premiere of his film Three Day Millionaire.

The movie prodigy was invited to speak at the college after several students were recruited to help out behind the scenes of the upcoming flick. At the talk, pupils were given the opportunity to ask Jack about how they could achieve their dream of getting into the film and television industry.

While Mr Spring’s career has been rather “alternative”, as he dropped out of the University of York after just one year, he insists that formal education is not a necessity in the film world. “It’s not the be all and end all,” he told Grimsby Live.

Jack is no stranger to Grimsby Institute as he first had a walk around campus around three years ago, whilst in the middle of shooting his latest project. He said: “I came in to meet their department about three years ago and they’ve been brilliant ever since.

“We’ve worked with a few of their staff on some of the drone shots in the film, so they’ve been super involved. I’ve been really impressed with what they’ve done. The art building is amazing and some of the work the kids have been doing has been great.”

Jack continued: “I’ve now been lucky enough to be asked to come and chat to the students. The important thing to get across is that everyone has their own path. There is no right or wrong, especially in this industry.”

Even though Jack wasn’t born around the area, he opened his talk by joking about how he was “roped into” supporting Grimsby Town FC at a young age. He added: “It’s been a life sentence ever since.”

Institute student Mathew Pickett, 22, was just one of the lucky few to work on Three Day Millionaire with Jack. He believes it’s time the world had fresh perspective of Grimsby after the controversial 2016 Sacha Baron Cohen film that was named after the town.

During the shooting of the highly anticipated flick, Mathew worked as a production runner. In this role he had a range of responsibilities, including helping the crew with the camera equipment and just assisting in general logistics. Overall, it helped give him a well rounded glimpse into the industry.

Mathew said: “It was an amazing experience to be part of. To work with someone like Jack, who understands the local people and the area, was a massive honour and I’m happy I had a small part to play.”

Jack insists that this will not be the last time we hear from him as he is already working on his next project which will see him return to his former university stomping ground in York. Alongside this, he also revealed that there is also some very early script writing being done for a potential Three Day Millionaire spin-off and so fans should keep their eyes peeled.
