CLEETHORPES Town fought back from being a goal down to draw 1-1 with promotion rivals Hebburn Town at the Linden to retain third in Northern Premier League Division One East.

The Owls went behind in the 75th minute to a James Harrison strike but equalised three minutes before time through a Declan Howe header.

Clee just about dominated first-half proceedings against a resolute and well-drilled outfit who started the game only one point adrift of the Linden outfit.

Paul Walker went close with a header after 23 minutes and five minutes later Tim Lowe saw his effort cleared off the line.

Owls’ keeper Tom Jackson was called into action for the first time 10 minutes before the break when he saved comfortably.

The game became much tighter in the second half with both sides searching for an opening.

It came in the 75th minute when Hebburn striker Harrison fired home, although the ball should have been cleared out of defence earlier.

The home crowd of just over 400 rallied and were rewarded when Howe nodded home his 12th league goal of the season.

Owls’ boss Nathan Arnold told the Grimsby Telegraph: “When you go a goal down with 15 minutes to go a point is a good one. I was frustrated with how we started both halves and asked them just to manage that period better

“We didn’t and struggled to get out at times and that was just in that period which is important because the first 10 minutes of the first half sets the tone really. It’s something that we’ll improve on. But it’s a new process and the lads will take time to adjust and adapt to my ideas.

“At the same time, I have seen enough in that game to suggest that going forward gives us something really good to build on.”
