BRITISH folk star Seth Lakeman is coming to Grimsby in February. Following a very busy year playing a variety of large scale festivals, the singer/songwriter has announced he’ll be playing Grimsby’s iconic Docks Academy on Friday, February 10. Shortly after, he’ll be embarking on a European tour, starting in Amsterdam on February 21.

The multi-instrumentalist recently appeared on the Sea Song Sessions album alongside the likes of Jon Boden, Seth, Ben Nicholls, Emily Portman and Jack Rutter.

The record included a collection of British maritime folk songs and sea shanties, which makes Lakeman an ideal performer to grace the Grimsby docks.

The Devon-born musician first made a name for himself in the late Nineties while performing with the band Equation alongside his two brothers Sean and Sam.

At the time, the group were regularly compared to Fleetwood Mac.

The band parted ways in 2001, while Sean and Sam went on to create duos with fellow band members Cara Dillon and Kathryn Roberts, Seth started to find success as a solo musician.

He has since recorded 12 studio albums, where he demonstrates his skills not only playing guitar but also the fiddle, the viola and the banjo. His 2005 record Kitty Jay was shortlisted for a Mercury Music Prize alongside rock and pop heavyweights Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, Magic Numbers at KT Tunstall.

Ultimately, he lost out on the award to Antony and the Johnsons with their album I Am a Bird Now.

Tickets to the show are now on sale and start at £20.

Going into people’s homes, you can really see the impact its had on children, especially with prices going up.
