Man taken to hospital after crash with ambulance on 999 call

A MAN was taken to hospital after colliding with an ambulance on a Grimsby road whilst it was on a 999 call.
A blue Audi A2 collided with the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) vehicle on Cleethorpe Road, leaving heavy damage to the front of the Audi and a slight amount of damage to the ambulance. Members of the public pushed the Audi up a nearby street to keep the road open after the collision. One man was then put in the ambulance and checked over before being discharged at the scene, but was later taken to hospital, police said. The crash happened on Wednesday at around 5.30pm on Cleethorpe Road at the Victor Street junction. EMAS has stated they will now investigate the incident further to establish the circumstances. Humberside Police has also asked anyone who witnessed the crash or has any relevant information to contact the 101 non emergency number quoting log 397 of 23 November. In a statement, Alastair Smith, Head of Operations for Lincolnshire said: “One of our ambulances responding to a 999 call was involved in a road traffic collision involving one car in Grimsby at 5.25pm on Wednesday, November 23. One patient with minor injuries was assessed and discharged at the scene.
“The incident will be investigated so it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.” Humberside Police added: “Officers were called to reports of a twovehicle road traffic collision at around 5.30pm on Cleethorpes
Road, Grimsby, yesterday (Wednesday, November 23).
“It is reported that an Audi A2 and an ambulance were in collision near to the junction of Victor Street and Cleethorpes Road. One man was taken to hospital and is not believed to have sustained serious injuries. “If anyone has any information regarding this incident, you can contact us on 101, quoting log 397 of 23 November.”
