Christmas lights switched on at start of ‘Fabulously Festive Weekender’

ST JAMES’ SQUARE AND MINSTER TO HOST SEASONAL CRAFT, GIFT AND FOOD STALLS DURING THIS WEEKEND

CHRISTMAS has officially begun in n Grimsby with the annual Christmas s lights-switch on.

The event in St James Square on n Friday night kicked off a “Fabulously y Festive Weekender” in a change to o the traditiona­l Thursday night cere- mony and parade which normally y co-incides with the start of late night t shopping.

This year, Freshney Place will start t its late opening on Thursday, , December 1.

This weekend, St James’ Square e and Grimsby Minster will host sea- sonal craft, gift and food stalls, , alongside the Gaia (Earth) exhibi- tion.

Colourful and light entertainm­ent t throughout the weekend is prom- ised, including stilt walkers, live e music and an appearance from m Santa himself.

During the tree lighting, there e were performanc­es from All for One e Choir, East Coast Elite band and a blessing from the Minster’s vicar, , Father Chris Hewitt.
