GRIMSBY movie Three Day Millionaire is now available to watch in select cinemas across the country and on digital platforms.

The gritty comedy received a warm welcome from locals as Cleethorpes’ Parkway Cinema sold out four screens during its world premiere on Friday November 18. Many believed that the world needed a fresh perspective of Grimsby after the controversial 2016 Sacha Baron Cohen film which was named after the town and director Jack Spring was aiming to do just that.

The honorary Grimbarian not only recruited a fine cast of actors - including local extras - to appear in the film but also enlisted the help of several film and television students from Grimsby Institute.

Just before the premiere, Jack even gave a talk at the college on how he got into the film industry. Parkway Cinema said that it experienced one of its busiest nights during the long-awaited premiere. Owner Richard Parkes said: “It was easily our biggest film of the week, and in fact one of our best Monday nights since the last James Bond.”

Jack, who’s currently in the middle of a Q&A tour across the country, said he’s been overwhelmed by the response so far.

He added: “I’m very grateful for how well it’s been received in Grimsby.

“I’ve gotten hundreds of tweets from people who have seen the film and are loving it. “Apparently it’s done three time more than any other film this week, which is amazing considering we’re going up against some other big releases from the likes of Marvel.” The flick was filmed entirely in Grimsby and is based on the fishermen who returned to their home port with fistfuls of cash from the sale of large hauls of fish. “Several well-known English actors made up the cast including Colm Meaney, of Star-Trek-fame and the cult crime classic Layer Cake.

The central character, Curly Dean, is played by James Burrows who sets up a gang including Jonas Armstrong, of BBC ‘s Robin Hood and Edge of Tomorrow. They are assisted by Sam Glen, from World’s End and Robbie Gee, of Snatch-fame. Jack is already working on his next project which will see him return to former university stomping ground in York.

He’s also previously teased that there is some very early script writing being done for a potential Three Day Millionaire spin-off and that fans should keep theirs eye peeled.
