BGT ‘ROCKSTAR MAGICIAN’ FROM GRIMSBY GETS RED BUZZER FROM SIMON COWELL

- By YASMIN WAKEFIELD

A ‘ROCKSTAR magician’ from Grimsby was given the dreaded red buzzer by music mogul Simon Cowell on Saturday night’s Britain’s Got Talent. Arron Jones, 30, now lives in Sheffield but is originally from Grimsby and gave the judges a whirlwind ‘chaotic’ performance of magic and rock which resulted in him getting a red buzzer from Simon himself. Before commencing his act, Arron confidently announced to the judges: “I have what it takes to win - no one does what I do”.

With Journey’s iconic hit, Don’t Stop Believin’, serving as the backdrop soundtrack, Arron asked Simon to choose and memorise a card from the deck before handing it over to fellow judge Amanda Holden. He then gave an elastic band to Alesha Dixon whilst asking Bruno Tonioli to “stay looking sexy”.

Sporting an unbuttoned star print shirt, black jeans, bandana and black heels, Arron took centre stage to perform a rock number with his Keytar - merging elements of both a keyboard and guitar - while directing instructions at the judges, reports Yorkshire Live.

He advised Amanda to split the deck in any place of her choosing and had Simon insert his card. The deck was subsequently passed to Alesha who secured them with the elastic band.

Having effectively demonstrated his ability to juggle musical and magical talents simultaneously, Arron proceeded to direct Bruno to take the deck. Arron’s musical act hit a dramatic high note when his amplifier suddenly caught fire, revealing the number 17, prompting Simon to hit his red buzzer.

As Arron’s magic trick unfolded, he predicted that the card Simon had picked at the beginning would be the 17th card from the top of the deck. With Bruno tallying the cards, the magician prompted Simon to announce his chosen card - the ace of hearts.

To the amazement of everyone, the 17th card turned out to be the ace of hearts, which was then placed on the judge’s desk. Judge Alesha Dixon was impressed, commenting: “It was absolute chaos, brilliant energy - there was so much to like about that. It’s a yes from me.”

Simon, however, was left rather unimpressed by the chaotic performance, admitting: “I literally have nothing to say - you sound and look very confident, but it didn’t do anything for me whatsoever.” Despite the spectacle, the rockstar magician did not advance to the next stage of the ITV competition, bidding farewell to the judges and audience as he left the stage.

Social media users echoed the judges’ sentiments, with critical comments flooding in. On X, previously known as Twitter, @lydylyd posted: “A rock star musician ? ? This just gets worse and worse #bgt.”

Twitter user @AmyJoanne__ commented: “Aaron reminds me of a knockoff eurovision act. #bgt #BritainsGotTalent.”

Another user, @MrsAshwood quipped: “Johnny Depp and Keith Lemon had a love child! #BGT,” whilst @Sam_5516 added: “The world didn’t need Keith Lemon doing magic tricks. #bgt #BritainsGotTalent.” Likewise, @RyanTheSoapking posted his bewilderment: “What the bloody hell was that? ? ? ? #BGT,” a n d @ Erasmo2058 suggested a new act: “Rock star magician, next #BGT.”
