A COUPLE who were so inspired by the flavours and cuisines they tried on their travels that they wanted to bring them to the people of Grimsby have opened a quirky street food restaurant on Abbeygate offering a combination of Asian and Latin American dishes.

Chef Dale Brophy and his partner, Natalie Clark, launched BARE Street Kitchen in a “labour of love” to bring something “new and different” to the town.

From flavourful brunch combinations to its array of tacos and bao buns, each dish has been lovingly created after the couple were inspired by the street food they ate around the globe. Set to officially open today, BARE Street Kitchen will then be open every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Sundays, guests can choose from an array of brunch options for Brunch Club, while on Mondays, they can enjoy two-for-one margaritas for Margarita Mondays.

Speaking to Grimsby Live, Natalie said: “We love to travel and eat different foods and try different cuisines. Dale trained as a chef in Australia and when he learned, he started with Asian food doing massive street markets in Australia.

“We travelled to south east Asia and we loved sitting in the street markets, trying the different cuisine and taking in the sounds, the sights and the whole experience. We want to try and recreate that here.

“In city centres there’s always something like this, so we wanted to bring something new and different to Grimsby.

“It’s been a labour of love and we both wanted to do this together - we’ve been together for a long time and it was time.”

Dale said: “We’ve taken some of our favourite things that we’ve eaten across Asia and Latin America and we’ve attempted to make the same things authentically.

“Different dishes do require specific ingredients and specific cooking styles, so there’s a few non-authentic ways we’ve had to adapt it, so those are more of an inspiration.

“We have a huge variety across the menu - some focus on Asian flavours and others really focus on Latin American styles.

“There’s a few on there where it’s a Latin American dish made in an Asian style, but most of our dishes are based on one cuisine rather than a mish mash of both cuisines.”

He said the experience of opening a restaurant alongside partner Natalie has been “brilliant”.

“It’s been brilliant. Being a chef is one of the best and worst things I’ve ever done, and opening this place is only reinforcing that, but it’s been a brilliant experience,” he said.

“We’ve met some great people and we’re in a great street with fantastic neighbours, so it could have been a lot worse.

“When we first started out and were explaining to people, ‘we’re going to build a fake wall and we want it to be a street market’, and all of these people just staring at us, to now having a restaurant with all of those things in it, is fantastic. It’s certainly unique.” BARE Street Kitchen will officially open today, from 12pm to 10.30pm. To find out more information, you can like the Facebook at https://www. facebook.com/BAREStreetKitchen
