Hartsholme start cup defence in fine style against Nettleham

Hartsholme began the defence of the George Marshall Trophy with a seven wicket victory over Nettleham 2nds, who set a target of 116 for 9, with 21 from Archie Rossington and Kieran Baker, before opener Krish Barla guided Hartsholme to 117 for 3.

Last year’s beaten finalists Broughton also made it through when beating Messingham by 80 runs as they made 148 for 8, after which they dismissed the visitors for 68 with the wickets being shared around.

Liam Grimes was the mainstay of the Appleby Frodingham 2nds innings at Barton Town when scoring 64 not out along with 29 from Simon Taylor in their 176 for 6. Mohammed Rahman picked up 5 for 6 as Barton were bowled out for 106 in reply. Cleethorpe­s 2nds posted 130 all out against Caistor Town thanks to 35 from Ed Carlton, with Sean Woolley taking 4 for 16 and Ben Ellis 3 for 9 for Caistor who then fell 11 short despite 48 from Scott Indian and 40 from Jim Parker as Freddie Lumby claimed 3 for 29. Division One Cherry Willingham ko’d Premier Division Haxey who they dismissed for 64 as Matt Spikings captured 4 for 15 and Tom Hunt 3 for 27 before Lee Coupland made 22 not out to guide Cherry to a six wicket victory. Elsewhere, Louth beat Scunthorpe Town 2nds on the toss of a coin and Lindum 2nds won a bowl out against Scothern.

BOB WELTON CUP 1ST RD

2023 winners Alkborough were beaten on the toss of a coin by Louth 2nds as their ground was too wet for their game to take place. Beaten finalists from last year Normanby Park were also knocked out when beaten by Barton Town 2nds, who restricted Normanby to 124 for 5 as Jack Cowling top scored with 30 along with 27 each from Matthew Housam and Sam Longden, before Oliver Yard and Joe Atkinson 31 not out and 31 saw the Humberside­rs home. Alford romped to a huge win against Scunthorpe Town 3rds, posting a mammoth 273 with 107 from Dennis Buirman and 41 from Tom White and then proceded to bowl Scunthorpe out for just 65, Xander Crabb with 24 not out. Former Scunthorpe player George Luya top scored for new club Hibaldstow in their all out 107 at Keelby against Brocklesby Park, who eased to a seven wicket win thanks to 52 not out from Mohammed Saad Khan.

Rob Cowlam top scored on 62no for Cleethorpe­s 3rds, who made 175 for 7 against Brigg Town with Matthew Thompson adding 43, before 78 by Ashraful Alam saw Brigg go close, only to fall 20 short, George Whiteman taking an impressive 5 for 20. Horncastle were dismissed for 117 against Bracebridg­e Heath 2nds with 40 from Fraser Pemberton, Ian McGowan claiming 3 for 37, Bracebridg­e replying with 119 for 5, while Market Rasen 2nds beat Grimsby Town 2nds on the toss of a coin and Outcasts were awarded the game against Lindum 3rds who were unable to field a team.

LCCL DIVISION 3 EAST

Gully Cricketers finally made their LCCL bow when hosting Scothern 2nds who made 120 with 51 from Ben Gregory as Muhammad Afzal took 4 for 22 and Nagaraj Sivaji 3 for 24, but it wasn’t to be a successful first game as Gully were dismissed for 99, Muhammad Zubair taking 4 for 10 and Ellis Brook 3 for 15 for Scothern.

The other games were postponed due to wet conditions, at Grimoldby (v HLC 2nds) and Cherry Willingham 2nds (v Hartsholme 2nds).

LCCL DIVISION 3 WEST

Wet conditions at Owmby meant Nettleham 3rds and Outcasts 2nds hurriedly switched their game to Outcasts whose ground was free when Lindum 3rds conceded their Bob Welton Cup match. It proved a good decision for the Isle side who posted 148 for 6 with 32 not out from Alex Proctor and 28 from Russell Fletcher, Harry Thornton taking 3 for 24 for Nettleham who were then bowled out for 69 as Sam Varley, Darren Clark and Billy Scott all captured two wickets each. Caistor Town 2nds claimed victory over Horncastle 2nds, making 195 thanks chiefly to 83 from Josh Ballard and 35 from Luke Hill before James Rock took 4 for 17 as the visitors were out for 62. There was a good win for Messingham 2nds against Grimsby Town 3rds, who were out for 98 with David Langford (4 for 22) and George Longstaff (3 for 30), before Oliver Fowler helped his team to a five wicket win.
