“I remember watching this performance live on TV and being completely floored. I’ve always been a big fan of Leon Russell and his tune ‘A Song for You.’ To me it’s one of the greatest ever written. What I love about John’s solo is the amount of control and restraint he shows. To me it’s the perfect solo. The melody builds through the changes and ultimately lifts the song. Somebody told me once you should strive to have the audience singing your solos as they walk out at the end of the night. To me, this is a perfect example of that.”
