MARION BASCOUL & MARTIN HAMICHE OF AEPHANEMER
1
“Twilight of the Thunder God” Amon Amarth
Marion: The melodic guitar work here is very characteristic of the band, not really featuring a lead guitar (apart from the solo), but rather two highly melodic rhythm guitars. This song is what made me want to learn to play guitar!
2
“Needled 24/7” Children of Bodom
Martin: Children of Bodom massively influenced my songwriting, and while I love the neoclassical vibe of their first albums, I think this song is the one that fully captures the band’s spirit.
3
“AEtti Mørkna” Windir
Marion: A perfect example of rhythm and lead guitars complementing each other; this song also features the use of the classical counterpoint technique to create complex, yet delightful melodies.
4
“The Insight and the Catharsis” Dimmu Borgir
Martin: I Love the perfect balance between guitars and orchestrations. Dimmu Borgir is the band that taught me that classical instruments and guitars can be mixed in a beautiful way.
5
“Only for the Weak” In Flames
Marion & Martin: This song is proof that melodies don’t need virtuosity to have a huge impact. In Flames are masters of harmonized guitars, and the musicality of their guitar work keeps inspiring us today!
AEPHANEMER’S NEW ALBUM, A DREAM OF WILDERNESS, IS OUT NOW VIA NAPALM RECORDS.
