Tredegar face best in world at Brass in Concert in November Ross-on-Wye park concerts

BANDS In The Park free outdoor summer concerts take place at Ross-on-Wye Bandstand, Wye Street, from next week throughout the summer, every Sunday from 2.30pm-4.30pm.

■■June 30 – Lydbrook Band

■■July 7 – Nailsworth Silver

■■July 14 – Proms in the Park, 2pm-7.30pm, featuring Jazz Friday Big Band, AW Parker (Drybrook) Band and Ebbw Valley Brass

■■July 21 – Cheltenham Silver Band

■■July 28 – Cinderford Band

■■August 4 – Glevum Big Band

■■August 11 – Forest of Dean Brass

■■August 18 – Worcesters­hire Winds

■■August 25 – City Cardiff Melingriff­ith Community Band.

There’s ice cream available from Kelsmor Dairy as well as free toilets on site.

Car-parking will be available at Wilton Road.

Don’t forget to bring a blanket, chair and a bite to eat.

THE 47th Brass in Concert Championsh­ip with 11 bands will take place at the Glasshouse Internatio­nal Centre for Music on Saturday, November 16.

The 11 bands are among the finest in the world including the current Brass in Concert Champion, Foden’s, as well as bands from England, Scotland, Wales and Norway.

The event will be introduced by Frank Renton. The competing bands are Aldbourne, Brighouse and Rastrick, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery, Cory, Flowers, Foden’s, GUS, Hammonds, Krohnengen, the Cooperatio­n Band and Tredegar.

Speaking on behalf of Brass in Concert, CED Nigel Stevens said: “We’re delighted with the field of bands taking part in this year’s event, and we’re especially pleased to welcome back Cory, GUS, Krohnengen and the Cooperatio­n Band,
