Top results from college that encourages team work

-

You may be surprised to know that Kirklees College offers courses for professionals, school leavers, families, adult learners, people seeking work and those wanting to take a degree level course in a centre that’s on their doorstep. Our students get the best results in England. In 2012-13, 97.2 per cent of the college’s 16-19 year old students passed their course. This placed the college at the top of the table for pass rates in England compared to other large FE colleges (over 4,500 students). The college puts this down to the exceptional level of support the students receive, along with close monitoring of students’ progress throughout the year and the mentoring provided by tutors. Our students increase their options with qualifications and work skills. It’s a myth that vocational qualifications narrow your options after college. As a college that specialises in vocational qualifications, Kirklees College prides itself on the successes of its stu- dents who progress to great things. Many go to university or take a higher level course after passing their vocational courses. Many go on to excel in the vocation they studied and others use the employability skills and knowledge to succeed in a completely different industry to the course in which they studied. Coming to Kirklees College increases your options. Our students learn from industry experts. All of our staff have experience of working in the industry of the subject they teach including catering staff who worked at The Savoy in London, hairdressing staff with their own salons and business tutors who have run international companies. The college has a huge network of industry experts outside the college, who regularly come in to give guest speech- es, mentor students or offer work placements and guidance. Our students get the chance to shine at work. Kirklees College’s apprentices and students on work placements are encouraged to excel in college, but also in the work place. Our carefully selected apprenticeship and work placement providers are trained in nurturing talent and look for the best in their workforce. Our students are valued as team players. The employers we work with have always told us how much they value the apprentice or student they place as a real part of the workforce. Teamwork is encouraged and developed both in the classroom and on apprenticeships and work placements, making our students employable and valuable. The latest project by a former Kirklees College student who set up his own architecture and design business will be featured on C4’s Restoration Man. Jake Hinchliffe, 22, from Mirfield, completed a BTEC National Diploma in Construction Management. He will be featured converting a former church in Hopton, Mirfield, into a dwelling.
