Students and staff at The Crossley Heath School were celebratin­g GCSE results on Thursday (August 21), as students floodedthe school to receive this year’s “outstandin­g results”.

Doors opened at 9am for the eager students waiting to find out how they did in this years exams. Edward Garside, 16, was “overwhelme­d” with his results. He achieved A*, including one A* distinctio­n, in everything but one subject, which he received an A.

“I wanted to do well but I didn’t expect that. It has taken constant work and study.”

Wendy Moffat, head teacher at the school, said: “We are really impressed with the standard and the results our students have received this year.

“I think it has been quite a worrying year with all the changes that have been happening nationally.

“We are told that the exams are going to be harder and that there will be fewer A*’s and A’s, so I am really pleased that the kids at Crossley Heath have done fansticall­y well.

“I want to thank all the staff and students for all their hard work over the year.”

Jack Noble, a Crossley Heath student, is celebratin­g his success after achieving the results he needed to gain a place to Welbeck Military College, in Loughborou­gh.

The renowned military college only accepts 25 students on the RAF scheme a year and he will join the boarding school, undertakin­g five A Levels in maths, physics, chemistry, design technology and geography. Jack will also take part in Combined Cadet Force activities as well.

More than 500 people around the UK applied for the 25 places and candidates had to undergo medical checks, several interviews and attend a selection weekend.

Reece Geisler, 16, said than he did “better than expected” in his exam results.

“I got grades that I didn’t think that I was going to get. The grades show that hard work pays off.”
