Methodist Church is to close in its centenary year. The cost of running the church has proved too heavy for the small congregati­on. The remaining members plan to worship in private homes, just as many did in the early days of Methodism. The church building is said to be sound.

Halifax boy swam 500 yards to summon help for his two cousins who had been cut off by the tide at Filey. Geoffrey Riley, of Bradshaw, and his companions were holidaying with relatives at a nearby caravan camp. They set out at low water to to walk along the cliff foot to Filey Brigg. After his long swim Geoffrey climbed the brigg to call for help. A fishing boat from Filey rescued the children.
