Machon continues run of Hall juniors

-

Oliver Machon took the main prize when Steve Hurlin hosted his President’s Day competition at Bradley Hall last Saturday.

After two months of summer weather, it was a shock to the 149 competitors to be faced with a strong wind blowing down the course and a significant drop in temperatures.

There were occasional heavy showers but the course could not have been in better condition.

The first player to tee off at 6.50am was Paul Stott (14) and he returned his best score of the season with a nett 69.

He was closely followed in the next group by the reliable Gary Shuttleworth (10), who was just one shot back.

It stayed that way until until mid-afternoon when Dean Alexis (6) edged into the lead with another nett 69 but with a better back nine score.

As the event drew to a conclusion, not for the first time this year one of the club’s junior team, Machon (10), came in with a winning nett score of 67, reducing his handicap to 8.6.

The best gross prize was taken by Richard Broadley (+1) on a better back nine from James Fairhurst (1). Both took 74 shots, and Andy Whitworth (1) was one further back.

Andrew Littlewood (23) won Division Two (16-28) with a nett 69 from Eddie Baikie (19) with the best of the 72s.

Stott took the The Presidents Salver for golfers of 50 years and over.

The day was concluded with a dinner and cabaret and the prize presentation. Division One: 1, O.Machon 77-10=67; 2, D.Alexis 75-6=69; 3, P.Stott 83-14=69; 4, G.Shuttleworth 80-10=70; 5, M.
