Halifax head to Booth in bid to lift Nixon Trophy

-

Booth will stage Sunday’s Nixon Trophy final between the Foster’s Halifax League and the Huddersfield Central League (1.30).

League official Geoff Wright had tried to find a ground nearer to Huddersfield but the likes of Blackley, Copley and Sowerby were unavailable and he knows the players will be well looked after at Booth.

The Halifax League had been due to play the York Senior League in the semi-finals of the Nixon Trophy and West Yorkshire Area Knockiout Cup.

However, when two attempts to stage back- toback Twenty/20 games were thwarted by the weather, the leagues agreed to progress in one competition each.

Team boss Andrew Pinfield describes his team as “youthful with plenty of athleticism.”

He said there were plenty of options with bat and ball for the 40 overs per side contest.

There is a first appearance for the league side from Pinfield’s free-scoring Jer Lane clubmate Raqeeb Younas, who scored 67 in the Parish Cup final recently.

Two young members of the Copley side which beat Lane will also be near the head of the batting order.

Toby Thorpe scored 115 and Chris Dennison 61 in the cup final.

Skipper Richard Laycock will be playing on his home ground along with clubmates Patrick Thomas and Chris Shannon.

Ross Soames, one of two Thornton players in the team, is the wicketkeeper.
