Top guns compete for new cup

-

The Ziggys Metro Cars Halifax Sunday League kicks off on Sunday with the now traditional Charity Day.

Twenty six of the league’s 35 teams will play each other for the three chosen charities.

This year the organisations to benefit are: Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice,Overgate Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Premier Division champions Carrington will play District Cup winners Hollins Holme for the Jake Booth Memorial Trophy.

Joel Booth, Jake’s father and a key figure at Hollins, donated the trophy in memory of his young son who passed away last year.

“When we lost Jake in December the support from the Halifax Sunday League was humbling,” said Booth.

“I’ve been involved with the league for over 20 years and received many messages from old friends.

“What was even more hum- bling was the amount of players we received messages from who we didn’t know personally.

“I wanted to give something back-and this is it, the first annual match between cup winners and champions for the Jake Booth Memorial Trophy.”
