Come on, council, do the decent thing over tickets given in ‘free’ car park!

-

I use the car park in Church Lane, Brighouse, quite often, when taking services in the nearby St Martin’s Church. Earlier this year a parking meter was installed. Shortly after, a notice was affixed saying that people parking their cars there need not buy a parking ticket. Sometime later that notice was removed - by vandals or Calderdale Council staff? On Thursday, August 14, I parked my car there and did not buy a parking ticket. On return to my car a ticket was affixed to my windscreen - penalty £25. I think that this was probably “legal” but most unfair. The Courier has kept read- ers informed of the saga of whether or not this car park should be free as agreed by the current Conservative led council. It would be a good gesture if the council repaid these fines in line with the spirit of the law, in much the same way as York Council has repaid fines paid by people crossing Lendal Bridge during the time when that bridge was not meant to be used by cars. I am hoping for the £25 being paid back to me. Come on Council and do the decent thing!
