Walsh has national title in his sights

-

New Crow Nest Park junior Louie Walsh is playing in the UK Kids Golf Final at Brampton Heath Golf Club in Northamptonshire tomorrow. Walsh joined Crow Nest in June and since then has been regularly seen playing the course with his father Lee.

He has yet to be allocated a playing handicap, but this has not stopped him playing in competitions which are specially designed for youngsters just starting out in the game.

Walsh played at Hawkstone Park Golf Club, on their short nine hole course and won the event carding a very good score of 42 which gave him an entry next year into the Kids European Final, in Switzerland.

In addition he also came a very creditable third at Formby Hall Golf Club in Lanca- shire, returning an excellent score of 87, which resulted in him qualifying for the UK Kids Final later this month.

Walsh is also entered to compete in a Callaway Qualifying Competition in October again at Formby Hall.

If he is successful then he may qualify to play in the finals which are held in San Diego, California in July 2015.

All this for a young lad who, having being released from playing schoolboy football from Manchester United, earlier this year is a tremendous acheivement in such a short period of time.

He said that he had watched the youngsters playing in the Pre Augusta Masters competitions in April, and that they had inspired him to play golf and to try and follow in their footsteps.

His elder brother Ben, plays golf at both South Bradford and Bingley St Ives Golf Club and plays off a handicap of four.

Crow Nest Park Golf Club’s resident professional Paul Everitt, who has been giving Louie golfing lessons within his Young Diamonds Golfing Academy, said that the youngster ‘s next step was to obtain a playing handicap to enable him to play in more competitions.

The time was right for a Halifax golfer when he scored a hole-in-one during a recent club competition to be rewarded with a limited-edition BOSS watch as recognition for the achievement.
