We were excellent, says Aspin

-

Neil Aspin praised FC Halifax Town’s “excellent” performance after they beat Chester 3-0 to regain their place at the top of the Conference Premier.

Town outplayed their hosts for long periods at the Deva Stadium for their second away win of the campaign.

Richard Peniket, Scott Boden and Matt Pearson each bagged a goal as Town cruised to victory.

Aspin said: “It was a very good performance.

“From start to finish I thought we were excellent.

“I felt we showed the other side of our game today where we passed it a lot more than we have done in the previous three games.

“I can’t give the players enough praise, I thought they were excellent today.”

The Town boss said he wanted his side to get off to a bright start, and certainly got what he asked for as Halifax assumed superiority right from the off.

Aspin said: “I think we huffed and puffed in the first half of all three previous games then did a bit better in each second half.

“Today I was keen to be on the front foot straight from the off, which we haven’t really done in the previous games.

“We could have scored after 30 seconds - we had a really good start, good tempo, passed it well, good movement and we really took the game away from Chester.”

Aspin also welcomed Boden’s first goal for the club and is predicting plenty more for the former Macclesfield strik- er, who scored 21 goals for the Silkmen last season.

The Town boss added: “It’s easy for me to keep saying that he’s going to score goals but it’s great he’s got off the mark.

“If there was one player we wanted to see score it’s Scott.

“I thought his general play and his movement was very good and I think there’s a lot more to come from him.

“I think Robbo’s taking all the credit for the cross but it was a good finish as well.”
