Here is your handy guide to walks coming up across Calderdale.

On Saturday, April 18, Halifax Scientific Society will explore the beautiful native bluebells of Park Wood, Elland.

Scientific Society walks are led by experience­d naturalist­s and range from easy to the more strenuous.

Weekend walks meet at 10.30am for a 10.45am start - walkers are advised to take a packed lunch, all weather clothing and strong footwear. Donations are welcome. Meeting places and arrangemen­ts for walks can be found by phoning 01422 348222, or by text on 07715 005379.

Another walk on April 18 will delve into the world of rocks and fossils on Todmorden Moor.

Meet Alison Tymon from West Yorkshire Geology Trust for a three-mile walk along the geological trail, looking at the different rocks, old mines and quarries and hopefully finding some fossils.

Walkers are advised to wear waterproof­s, good shoes or boots and warm clothing.

A magnifying glass would also be useful to see the fossils clearly.

Meet at 1pm at Sourhall Cottages, Sourhall Road, Todmorden.

On Sunday, April 19, meet Linda Croft for a heritage walk around Skircoat Green, Salterhebb­le and Skircoat Moor.

The walk will take in points of interest from Halifax’s Chartist history and in particular, the life of Benjamin Wilson of Skircoat Green.

Heritage walks are generally two hours of fairly easy walking and are suitable for accompanie­d children over the age of thirteen. No need to book, just turn up and pay on the day.

Meet at 2.15pm by the junction of Skircoat Green Road and Godfrey Road (opposite Murgatroyd Arms). Admission is £3.

Meet Mike Barnett on Monday, April 20, for a health walk around Ovenden.

Routes vary depending on the ability of those taking part but are between one and four miles long and often visit Beechwood Park and Shroggs Park.

On Tuesday, April 21, there will be a walk around Wainstalls and Mount Tabor led by CREW (Cardiac Rehabilita­tion by Exercise and Walking).

The five-mile walk will be led by Brian Birkby - meet at 10am at the Crossroads Inn, Wainstalls.

CREW is a local cardiac support charity offering exercise classes, educationa­l sessions, a weekly four to five mile walk and social events for people with cardiac or circulator­y problems.

Led by Jean Emsley, a six-mile walk around the Cannon Hall Estate, Barnsley, taking in the woodland and field paths. The group enjoyed largely fine weather until the end of the walk when it began to rain.
