-

Wath on Dearne U17’s 19 Old Brodleians U17’s 38 Old Brods booked their place in the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup following a hardfought win. Brods put pressure on Wath from the off and fullback Tom Wilson scored the first try, which he also converted. The second try soon followed after a strong run by captain Cole Wilson who also converted.

The Brods defence held firm when neccessary and with good positional kicking and forwards pressure, No 8, James Millington went over twice for a 26-0 interval lead.

The second half saw the wind behind Wath and they took full advantage, scoring their first try in minutes. Brods regroupedand scrum half Sam Burford Ayre went over before Wath scored twice.

However, Brods proved their ability to play well under pressure and Elliot Craven crossed, Wilson adding the extras.

Brods’ focus now turns to Sunday’s National Plate clash at Preston Grasshoppers where they face Midlands champions, Kidderminster. Bradford & Bingley u14 17 Rishworthians u14s 31 Rishies opened the scoring when, from a scrum five metres out, scrum half Kian Sutcliffe squeezed over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Within two minutes Bees were level, but Rishies had a great spell as Matty Tooby was just held up on the line before Owen Witchell went over under the posts. Corey White added the conversion.

From the restart Owen Witchell collected the ball and went on a near full length of the pitch run to score his second, converted by Kian Sutcliffe to give Rish a 14 point lead at the break.

Rish began the second half well but it was the Bees who struck first with a well worked unconverted try.

Rishies regained the upper hand with a fourth try from Tom Stott.

The win was then sealed with a superb fifth try from full back Nathan Donaldson. Tom Stott added the conversion.

Bees scored a converted try under the posts in the last action of the game. Brodettes Under 15s and 13s won their games against Malton and Norton. The U15s won 69-5 with tries coming from Abby Crowther (3), Kayleigh Evans (3), Izzy Northrop (2), Naomi Garbutt (2) and Megan Bloodworth.

Abby Crowther also landed seven conversions from 11 atempts in the strong wind.
