Bradshaw claim first school hockey crown
but were unable to hold the lead as Gelddings equalised.
The game was overshadowed when Tom Oakley was hit on the head by the Gleddings goal scorer while Lewis Blackburn grazed his leg in an attempt to stop the ball going in.
There was still all to play for and it was Hand who came up with the winning goal in extra time to seal Bradshaw’s success. Bradshaw team: Cole Hand, Tom Oakley, Lewis Blackburn, Nathan Smyth, Harrison Nejman. Salterhebble Junior and Infant School held a Sports festival for the whole school at The North Bridge Leisure Centre.
The event was a huge success with 210 children taking part in a round of different sports including athletics, football, rugby, dance mats, trampolining, hockey, roller skating and dance.
The event was organised by Kathryn Sutcliffe, the school’s PE Co-ordinator who worked with Colin Crowther, from The Brooksbank School, to engage the coaches who led the activities; from Halifax Harriers, FC Halifax Town, Halifax Hockey Club, Calderdale Leisure Services and Brant Dance. The coaches were well supported by students from Brooksbank.
The event is part of the school’s on-going provision covered by Government Sports Funding. The funding is intended to increase children’s involvement in high quality sporting activities, develop their individual skills and encourage healthy competition.
